The Hensbacka culture group and regional migrations 12,000 years ago. by Lou Schmitt and Stephan Larsson. How environmental conditions impacted early Mesolithic hunter-gatherers in Sweden Lou Schmitt, Krister Svedhage, Chronological aspects of the Hensbacka – a group of hunter-gatherers/fishers on the west coast of Sweden during the Pleistocene/Holocene transition: an example of early coastal colonization, Danish Journal of Archaeology, 10.1080/21662282.2016.1141490, 4, 1, (75-81), (2016). In doing so, we make use of oceanography and tidal modelling, in conjunction with basic research in the fields of archaeology and palynology. The focus of research concerns the Hensbacka culture group in central Bohuslän, a group of hunter‐gatherers which visited the area between c.10,300–9300 bp (10,200/10,000–8500 cal BC). Recently, Dr Lou Schmitt, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, brought to the author’s attention a single-edged (tanged) point of the Western Swedish Hensbacka Complex, which is almost identical to the piece from Brodgar (Figs 4-5) – and it is associated with a scientific date!

Nu är arkeologerna tillbaka med en tankeväckande och väl genomtänkt artikel, som har offentliggjorts i den arkeologiska tidsskriften Popular Archaeology den 1 juli 2018. Artikeln heter ”The Hensbacka … The Fosna/Hensbacka (ca. 8300 BC - 7300 BC, or 12000 cal.BP - 10500 cal.BP), were two very similar Late Palaeolithic/early Mesolithic cultures in Scandinavia, and are often subsumed under the name Fosna-Hensbacka culture. This complex includes the Komsa culture that, notwithstanding different types of tools, is also considered to be a part of the Fosna culture group. 2015-02-19 Schmitt, Lou: Why they came Stenborg, Per: Two approaches to room structure interpretation – a case study in NW Argentine. 1990.
